About Us
Welcome! We are Binghamton Area Residents for K-9s (B.A.R.K.) Park, a community organization dedicated to the creation of the Binghamton area’s first off-leash dog park. BARK Park is collaborating with the Binghamton Neighborhood Project and the United Way of Broome County through the Design Your Own Park competition which turns neglected spaces into utilized, community-oriented places. BARK Park will be maintained by community members and not funded through tax payer dollars. What is a dog park and why does Binghamton need one? A dog park is a large, fenced area where dogs can exercise and play off-leash in a controlled environment under the supervision of their owners. Dog parks enhance the quality of life in a neighborhood by not only providing a great venue for pet owners to bond with their dogs, but also fostering a sense of community, giving people a chance to meet new friends and chat with old ones. Studies have shown that dogs that have access to a safe, contained area in which to burn off energy are well behaved and well socialized; a well-exercised dog makes a better pet and a quieter neighbor.
Location
The future site of BARK Park is Cheri A Lindsey Memorial Park, located on Binghamton’s Northside along the Chenango River Trail, in an area of the park that is currently not in use. We have approximately one acre to create a beautiful space to serve our four-legged friends. As we work with the community to bring this park to life, our first goal is to fence in a 5,000 square foot area for small dogs (under 30 lbs) and a 38,000 square foot area for all dogs, giving our pals ample room to romp and play.
